Arsene Wenger's summer clear-out has continued after it was announced that defender Johan Djourou has joined German side Hamburg on a season-long loan with an option to buy this time next year.
Djourou joins Andrey Arshavin, Denilson and Sebastian Squillaci in leaving the Emirates Stadium so far this summer, while more departures are expected.
The Swiss centre-back has struggled to cement a first-team place at Arsenal and eventually left the club in January in order to join German side Hannover on loan - and now it has been confirmed that he will join rivals Hamburg for another season.
The 26-year-old completed his medical at the Bundesliga club before taking part in photo-shoots.
The Gunners centre-back has been talking to the German side's official website and he has admitted that he is delighted to join Hamburg.
"I'm very happy now that everything is sorted. HSV are a big club, with a lot of quality and great fans," Djourou told Hamburg's official website. "I am convinced that this is the right step for my career."
Hamburg's director of sport Oliver Kreuzer has also been talking about the deal, and insists that Djourou will add a lot to the side's defence after hailing his attributes.
"Johan was a priority as the defence is a very important part of our team," he commented. "He has leadership qualities but is also fast, good in the air and very good on the ball."
Djourou was highly-rated as a youngster and even made the World Cup at the age of 19, but he was never quite able to live up to the hype.
