At the age of just 19, Laura Robson has become a household name after catapulting herself to the last 16 at Wimbledon this year.

Robson is the first British woman to reach the last sixteen at Wimbledon since 1998 but unfortunately bowed out on Centre Court after being defeated in straight sets by Estonian Kaia Kanepi.

Robson's exploits have been a breath of fresh air for tennis and also for British sport in general.

The way the youngster has applied herself and reacted to victory and defeat must be admired by everyone.

Robson has an engaging air about her in interviews and a shyness on court that comes with youth.

It was noticeable how she reacted when winning games, it was almost an embarrassing acknowledgement to the large crowds who adore her for who she is.

Many sportsmen and women can take note of her actions. Without even realising it, Robson is now the darling of British tennis even more so than Andy Murray who has the more realistic chance of capturing titles at this moment in time.

British women's tennis now has a realistic chance of producing a future star and Robson is tipped to become a champion at some point in her career.

Robson will need to continue the hard work that has got her to this stage but will also need to avoid the pitfalls that most sportsmen and women have to cope with.

First and foremost Robson will need to continue sacrificing everything she has done before in order to get her into this position in her career.

She will need to learn how to handle the constant media pressure and public expectations that will no doubt accompany her wherever she goes.

Murray may well be happy that Robson has achieved so much this year at Wimbledon as it has taken a lot of the focus away from him, but that will now return with the defeat of Robson by Kanepi.

Robson has an important year ahead of her now as she bids to build on her impressive performances at Wimbledon.

It is only natural that expectations will be high but she is still only young and has a lot of development in front of her if she is to compete at the top level over a number of years.

Robson has lit up Wimbledon this year with her engaging character and I have no doubt she has inspired many girls to play tennis along the way. Hopefully we will see Robson grace Centre Court for many years to come.
