Lukas Podolski continued on his good goalscoring form, building up on goals against Fulham and Tottenham with an unbelievable volley against French champions Montpellier.

After a one-two with Olivier Giroud, which involved Giroud playing a brilliant chipped pass to Podolski, the German international fired on the volley from a tight angle, striking the ball with venom past Montpellier goalkeeper Geoffrey Jourdren.

2. Santi Cazorla v West Ham | Premier League

Santi Cazorla added the icing on the cake to a wonderful victory away at West Ham with this sumptuous dipping drive from 25 yards out. Under very little pressure, Cazorla decided to test Jussi Jaaskelainen from long range with a wonderful dipping drive, and the West Ham goalkeeper was beaten comprehensively. A great goal.

Lukas Podolski had made a name for himself with Germany, FC Cologne, and Bayern Munich for his excellent long-range goals - and this goal against West Ham was the pick of the lot.

Trailing 1-0 at home to West Ham and showing no real spark in attack, Podolski latched onto a simple pass from Jack Wilshere and fiercely drove the ball from 25 yards into the back of the net.

The ball was struck with such venom that West Ham goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen had absolutely no chance. It proved to be the catalyst for Arsenal’s Podolski-inspired win, with the German notching up three assists in addition to this wondergoal in a 5-1 victory against the Hammers.

4. Kieran Gibbs v Swansea | FA Cup

A player not known for his goalscoring prowess, Kieran Gibbs scored just one goal last season. But what a brilliant volley it was.

With Arsenal having just equalised through Podolski, the onus was on them to try and win, and Gibbs responded in magnificent fashion after volleying home brilliantly from Giroud’s pass.

It brought back memories of Lukas Podolski’s brilliant volley against Montpellier, except that no one expected Gibbs to even come close, let alone finish that with aplomb.

5. Theo Walcott v Newcastle | Premier League

Perhaps the best goal Theo Walcott has scored for Arsenal to date, this was a combination of some sublime footwork, calmness, composure, and common sense.

After taking a short free-kick, the Englishman beat a couple of players, dazzling them with his close ball control, before he was brought down.

However, he played to the whistle, and while everyone else seemed to have stopped for a moment, he calmly got up and guided his finish past Tim Krul. A sublime goal.
