Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna is in talks with Arsenal over a new contract, according to Goal.com.
There has been long-term speculation over Sagna’s future, with the right-back linked with mega-rich French sides Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco.
However, Sagna has now told Gulf News he 'never wanted to leave the club'.
Sagna, 30, now has one year left on his contract at Arsenal and the fact he has not yet signed a new contract had caused widespread speculation that he is looking to leave the club.
Monaco have shown their intent to spend big on high-profile players this window by winning the race for the much sought-after Radamel Falcao and they are hoping Sagna will follow his lead.
PSG already have a number of high-profile players with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva among the biggest names at the club.
New manager Laurent Blanc will also be looking to lure Sagna back to France.
Arsene Wenger now finds himself in a similar predicament to what he was in during last summer's transfer window when Robin van Persie had just one year left on his contract.
However he hopes that Sagna will sign a new contract if Arsenal can compete in the transfer market.
Arsenal have already signed Yaya Sanogo and are reportedly close to agreeing a deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain.
Signings of Higuian's calibre might be enough to convince Sagna to stay at the club rather than seek a new challenge in his native France.
