When Andreas Cornelius' £7.5 million move to Cardiff City from FC Copenhagen was confirmed, he joined a host of other players to make the trip across the North Sea this summer.

Scandinavian players are often seen as players who can step up to the English game with ease, as the Danish Superliga, Swedish Allsvenskan and Norwegian Tippeligaen are seen as similarly fast-paced competitions with an emphasis on physicality.

As for Cornelius himself, he is a big lad, measuring in at 6ft 4", and he was top scorer last season in the Superliga, scoring an impressive 18 goals in 32 appearances. He has also represented Denmark throughout the age groups, playing for the under-18s, 19s and 20s before making his senior debut last year against the Czech Republic.

However, Cornelius is not the only Dane to join a Premier League team this term. Jores Okore, a tough-tackling centre-back made the switch to Villa Park from FC Nordsjaelland. At only 20 years of age, Okore is certainly one to watch out for and Villa have him tied down on a four-year deal. Despite his young age, Okore has Champions League experience and has notched seven caps for Denmark.

Nicklas Helenius will join his fellow countryman ,Okore, at Villa and is another full international with two caps to his name. Helenius notched 29 goals in 55 appearances for previous club Aalborg - who are coached by ex-Villa player Kent Nielsen.

This phenomenon is not limited solely to Denmark. Sunderland have signed Swedish forward David Moberg Karlsson from IFK Gothenburg for an undisclosed fee and in January, Southampton signed Norwegian defender Vegard Forren from Molde.

These players will all hope to go on to have careers like Brede Hangeland, Henrik Larsson and Alfie Haaland, who all had good careers in Great Britain. However, they will want to avoid the exploits of Thomas Brolin - the Swede is consistently voted Leeds' worst ever player and one of the worst signings in Premier League history.
