Crystal Palace are set to launch an ambitious £3m bid for Leeds United’s defensive starlet Sam Byram, according to the Daily Mail.

The 19-year-old right-back is still very inexperienced, but has impressed hugely during his first full season of senior football at Elland Road.

His strength, power and understanding of the game have made him a firm fans’ favourite at Leeds - and have also alerted the interests of Manchester City, according to reports.

But Palace boss Ian Holloway is hoping that he can convince Byram to join his newly-promoted Eagles as they look to strengthen for their first campaign back in England’s top division.

It was thought that Byram would demand a larger fee than the £3m that is being reported, but Holloway has shown that he isn’t scared to spend big on lower-league players already this summer.

He has already had a £6m bid for Peterborough United striker Dwight Gayle accepted - and Palace are expected to complete the signing in the next few hours.
