New England Patriots quarterback Tim Tebow tried to prevent his former team-mate Aaron Hernandez getting into a fight whilst they were at the University of Florida together in 2007, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

It reveals further troubles that Hernandez has had with the law. The 23-year-old is currently facing charges of murdering 27-year-old Odin Lloyd, and is being held without bail - although he has pleaded not guilty.

During the fight in 2007, Hernandez, who was then 17, reportedly punched a bouncer after a disagreement over the price of a bar bill. The bouncer was then left injured and required medical treatment for a burst right ear drum.

According to police reports that were obtained by The Sentinal, Tebow had been there trying to stop the incident from happening and “help resolve the conflict” between the two men.

The police also reported that Hernandez was “polite and professional” and did not seem to be in a drunken state at the time the fight had occurred.
