Paulinho: Tottenham was the best offer

Published Add your comment

Paulinho has confirmed he will join Tottenham this summer, saying a switch to north London was his 'best option'.

The Corinthians was a key part of Brazil's Confederations Cup-winning squad and was named the tournament's third best player this week.

A host of European clubs had been chasing the 24-year-old including Roma and Inter Milan, while Chelsea and Real Madrid were also said to be interested.

However it appears as though Tottenham have won the race for his signature, and speaking in a press conference to announce his departure Paulinho revealed he had offers from elsewhere but said a switch to White Hart Lane proved to be too tempting.

"They made a proposal to my agent and Corinthians," he told ESPN's programme Bola da Vez. "I sat, I looked and I opted for Tottenham. We think it is the best way, the best option."

"I'm going from a big club to another big club and Tottenham are in a great league.

"I'm sure I will do my job the best way possible. I'm not sorry and I will not regret it."

Spurs are believed to have paid around £17 million to land Paulinho, and should announce his signing in the coming days.

They are expected to be now switching thier attention to landing a new striker, with David Villa reportedly in their sights.
