Manchester vs London XI: Head-to-head
We take a look at a battle between Manchester & London's finest
The Manchester clubs, once again, ended up the top two in the Premier League in 2012/13, however when combining a Manchester XI against an XI from London, which team would come out on top?
Here we take an unbiased look at whether the Premier League's Manchester rivals - City and United - would come out on top against the best players from Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham.
Using data from EA Sports' Player Performance Index (PPI) from last season and a pair of star squads selected by talkSPORT, GMS has come up with a definitive guide as to which players could propel their respective cities to success in such a derby.
MANCHESTER XI VS LONDON XI
Goalkeepers: David de Gea (Man Utd) vs. Petr Cech (Chelsea)
PPI outcome - De Gea: 441 vs. Cech: 501 (LONDON wins)
Right-back: Gael Clichy (Man City) vs. Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea)
PPI outcome - Clichy: 401 vs. Azpilicueta: 375 (MANCHESTER wins)
Centre-back: Vincent Kompany (Man City) vs. Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal)
PPI outcome - Kompany: 316 vs. Koscielny: 285 (MANCHESTER wins)
Centre-back: Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd) vs. Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham Hotspur)
PPI outcome - Ferdinand: 432 vs. Vertonghen: 467 (LONDON wins)
Left-back: Pablo Zabaleta (Man City) vs. Ashley Cole (Chelsea)
PPI outcome - Zabaleta: 436 vs. Cole: 419 (MANCHESTER wins)
Right-midfield: Shinji Kagawa (Man Utd) vs. Eden Hazard (Chelsea)
PPI outcome - Kagawa: 295 vs. Hazard: 614 (LONDON wins)
Centre-midfield: Yaya Toure (Man City) vs. David Luiz (Chelsea)
PPI outcome - Toure: 564 vs. Luiz: 382 (MANCHESTER wins)
Centre-midfield: Michael Carrick (Man Utd) vs. Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
PPI outcome - Carrick: 558 vs. Lampard: 448 (MANCHESTER wins)
Left-midfield: David Silva (Man City) vs. Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur)
PPI outcome - Silva: 552 vs. Bale: 705 (LONDON wins)
Centre-forward: Sergio Aguero (Man City) vs. Juan Mata (Chelsea)
PPI outcome - Aguero: 392 vs. Mata: 706 (LONDON wins)
Striker: Robin van Persie (Man Utd) vs. Dimitar Berbatov (Fulham)
PPI outcome - Van Persie: 827 vs. Berbatov: 530 (MANCHESTER WINS)
So, after a theoretical extra time and perhaps even penalty shoot-out, the Manchester XI would secure victory over their London rivals, by six players to five.
The back four and goalkeeper is made up of a mix from Manchester and London - the Manchester partnership of Yaya Toure and Michael Carrick prove the best central midfield pairing, whilst Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale would combine to make a world-class winger duo, ahead of Shinji Kagawa and David Silva.
Statistically, Robin van Persie is the best player to be taking part in the hypothetical match-up, after leading United to their twentieth Premier League title.
