Chelsea have agreed a deal for Holland starlet Marco van Ginkel, beating off interest from the likes of Manchester United and Ajax.
Chelsea’s official website confirmed they had come to an agreement over a fee for the exciting 20-year-old Netherlands U21 midfielder.
“Chelsea Football Club and Vitesse Arnhem have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marco van Ginkel,” read a statement.
“The player will join Chelsea subject to a medical, agreement of personal terms and legal documentation.”
Signing Van Ginkel is something of a coup for the Stamford Bridge club, as Premier League champions Manchester United were also reportedly keen on him.
New Old Trafford boss David Moyes was credited with an interest in taking the £15million-rated midfielder to the Red Devils, but new Blues boss Jose Mourinho has got the better of his rival.
Ajax were also keen on Van Ginkel but admitted early on that only the preference of the player would see them win the face to sign him, as there was no way they could compete with Roman Abramovich financially.
Chelsea will add Van Ginkel to £18million Germany international Andre Scürrle as their signings this summer.
