Tottenham have rekindled their interest in Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke as Andre Villas-Boas looks to add firepower to his front-line.
The 22-year-old Belgium international was in scintillating form for Villa last season, bagging 19 goals despite his club’s poor form.
Villas-Boas has made no secret of his desire to improve the club's attacking potential, and the Spurs boss is set to complete the signing of highly-rated Paulinho from Brazilian outfit Corinthians.
With Barcelona striker David Villa closely linked with the north Londoners and current frontman Jermain Defoe’s future clouded in mystery, it could well be that Benteke is on his way to White Hart Lane.
Benteke has yet to sign a new contract with Villa and the prospect of playing European football in the year building up to the 2014 World Cup should swing in Tottenham’s favour.
Villa manager Paul Lambert is adamant that the club do not want to sell their prize asset, but they may not be left with much choice should he decide to hand in a transfer request.
According to the Mirror, clubs interested in Benteke’s services have been told they will need to stump up at least £25m to get their man, which may put some potential bidders out of the race.
With Tottenham keen for the move to work, Villa accepting that every man has his price and Benteke sure to leap at the chance to play in Europe, it looks as though deal may be all but done already.
