Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez has claimed that he and the rest of the Saints squad will make new signing Dejan Lovren feel at home.

Speaking to about his experiences from joining Southampton from Burnley year ago, he said: “It's nerve-wracking when you come to a new team, but the lads here made me feel really welcome.

“It was a good experience to meet a bunch of new players, and the way they welcomed me in was really nice.”

Lovren signed for Southampton in June from Lyon and has been given an extended break before linking up with Southampton for pre-season training team shortly - and Rodriguez knows Lovren will be welcomed in the same way he was.

He added: “I'm sure we'll do that again so it'll be a nice experience for him (Lovren) as well.”

Rodriguez has already begun pre-season training with the rest of the Southampton team and has said he's glad to be back.

“It's come round really quickly, which is probably a good thing,” the striker continued. “Towards the end [of the break] you start missing it and you want to get back, so we're glad to be here. Now we will work hard and hopefully have a good pre-season.”

Rodriguez also believes that Southampton have a good chance of a good season, provided that they look after themselves during pre-season. But he also knows that the Premier League is a hard league to compete in.

“As we saw last year, every game in the Premier League is really hard because it's the best league to be in,” he said. “As long as we look after ourselves in pre-season, I think that'll stand us in good stead.”
