Reported Sunderland transfer target Jozy Altidore has hinted at a move away from AZ Alkmaar this summer.

Sunderland have already had a £4 million bid rejected for the American international striker, but may renew their interest as Paolo Di Canio looks to build his squad for next season – especially now Altidore has hinted he would like a move.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, the 23-year-old striker said: "When you get the possibility to play somewhere else, you always have to think about it.

"In general, you might be happy in your job and you don't think about leaving it. But if you have the opportunity to work somewhere else, you will think about it. What still counts for me is not the money. I have to know the feeling at a club suits me and I can develop myself as a football player.

"It is better for me not to comment on all the rumours, not only with Sunderland, but also with other clubs.

Altidore had been tipped as a future superstar when he was younger and scored his first MLS goal for the New York Red Bulls when he was just 16.

However, after joining Villarreal in 2008 he hasn’t quite lived up to his promise after a series of unsuccessful loan spells.

A transfer to AZ Alkmaar seems to have rejuvenated Altidore, though, and he has notched 38 goals in 67 appearances for them, alerting the interests of Sunderland.
