There is no doubt that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are world-class players. Pace, strength and an eye for goal - they are very similar.
However, Ronaldo is the better option for United.
Although the transfer fee will be large, to say the least, he can offer the Red Devils more than any other player can.
Having already proved himself at United, a second-spell would create the ultimate dream-team at Old Trafford. He is currently 28 but, with the way he trains and looks after his body, he could still play for many seasons.
Tottenham are on the verge of becoming a big club, but Gareth Bale hasn't proven himself yet at a top side as of yet - Ronaldo has, at two.
Bale is a world-class player, there is no doubt, but he wont score 30 league goals a season like Ronaldo will.
On a financial front, the transfer fee for Ronaldo will probably be out of reach unless there is some injection of money.
Bale's fee will also be extravagant, but he doesn't seem like a United player. Although Ronaldo can be a bit boastful on the field, he has more than enough quality to back it up.
On the commercial side of things, Ronaldo will still be the better option. With a new boost in shirt sales and a lot more fans supporting The Red Devils, his transfer fee could pay for itself, in that aspect.
And every United fan would love to see the Portuguese winger at Old Trafford once again. He got an amazing reception when he returned for Real Madrid's away tie against United at Old Trafford in the controversial Champions League match earlier this year.
Although some of the United supporters may have turned against him when he left for the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009, the prospect of having him back will leave the fans drooling.
