Pittsburgh Steelers quarter-back Ben Roethlisberger is delighted with how the NFL has been received in England and says he can't wait to play at the Wembley stadium.

Roethlisberger’s Steelers are due to play the Minnesota Vikings in September for what will be the first time the UK has hosted two NFL regular-season games at Wembley.

The second match, in October, will see the Jacksonville Jaguars play the San Francisco 49ers.

Roethlisberger, nicknamed Big Ben for his size, is excited to be a part of it and thinks the sport will continue to grow across the globe.

Roethlisberger told reporters: “To me that is neat, to grow our sport that we love so much. We play it, we love it.

“I think people are intrigued as to how physical it is. It is full contact, it is the most physical sport there is, but there is still an element of finesse to it.”

American Football is known to be a brutal sport, but Roethlisberger believes that it is the mixture of physicality and finesse that attracts such large audiences.

“Some of the guys, the running-backs and wide-receivers, some of the things they do is beautiful. I think that the game of football brings so much to the table that it intrigues people. It kind of sucks you in.”

Wembley stadium has been hosting one game per season since 2007, when the Miami Dolphins played the New York Giants.

Big Ben admits that although the players dread the long flight, they are soon settled in to their new environment.

"The more you start thinking about it and you talk to friends on other teams that have gone over there, they tell you how neat the experience was.

“If you have never been here to play the game, I think you look forward to the experience and playing in front of new fans, in a new stadium and a new country.”
