Nicolas Anelka, who was a free agent for part of last season, has turned down Serie A champions Juventus in favour of a return to the Premier League, according to the Guardian.

West Brom revealed the capture of the 34-year-old on Twitter, stating: “Albion have tonight completed the signing of @anelkaofficiel on a one-year deal, with a further year’s option in the club’s favour.”

The Frenchman has previously worked with Steve Clarke, and the former Chelsea assistant manager is thrilled to welcome the mercurial striker to the Hawthorns.

“We are missing a bit of firepower from last year – we're trying to put that right – and to kick off with the signing of Nicolas at the start of the summer is a great boost for everyone at the club," he said.

“The sole focus at the club is trying to build on what we did last season. The more quality players you can bring to the club the better – and no one can question Nicolas's quality.

"He's a player I have worked with before as I was at Chelsea when they signed him. He's got a great work ethic, looks after himself and is a consummate professional.”

Somewhat of a football nomad, the former PSG, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Liverpool forward has played for 11 different clubs across six leagues over the course of his professional career.

A Premier League Golden Boot winner just under five years ago, can ‘Le Sulk’ help Albion build on their eighth place finish last campaign?
