Chelsea believe new signing Marco van Ginkel can become Frank Lampard's long-term successor, as the Dutchman looks set to complete a £9million move from Vitesse Arnhem.
The Daily Mirror reports how the 20-year-old midfielder will formally agree terms and undergo a medical in west London next week, after being assured of his role in the Blues first-team next season.
Jose Mourinho beat a host of competitors to secure Van Ginkel's signature, and remains convinced he has the ability to fill the boots of Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer, over the next 18 months.
Lampard recently signed a one-year contract extension to prolong his stay at Stamford Bridge. But, at 35, the England international knows that his career is slowly coming to an end.
Van Ginkel scored eight goals in 33 appearances for Vitesse last season, and after an impressive campaign in the Eredivisie was handed his international debut for Holland against Germany last November.
Ajax were also keen on signing the box-to-box midfielder, but Chelsea beat the Dutch giants to agreeing a deal with Vitesse.
