Napoli manager Rafael Benitez is ready to beat his former employers Chelsea to the signing of Stefan Jovetic, according to the Daily Star.

The Montenegro international has been the subject of a bidding war this summer, with Premier League clubs Arsenal and Chelsea being strongly linked with Jovetic, as well as clubs from Serie A and La Liga.

Napoli are looking for a star name that looks set to replace Edinson Cavani, who has been heavily linked with a move to newly-promoted Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

The mega-rich side have already paid mega-money to bring Radamel Falcao, James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho to the club, and with the signing of Cavani reportedly close, Benitez is hoping to replace him with Fiorentina star Jovetic.

Napoli, who boasted a second place finish in Serie A last season, will hope to use the lure of Champions League football in order to bring one of Montenegro's brightest talents to the Stadio San Paolo next season.

If they do sell Cavani to Monaco in the coming days, Napoli will have a reported £55m to spend on further players, in what will be Benitez's first season with the Naples-based club.

Fiorentina's chief executive had earlier stated this week that they will not rule out selling Jovetic to a side in Serie A after rivals Juventus had been linked with a move for the player. But with the arrival of Carlos Tevez from Manchester City, this now looks unlikely.

Chelsea are yet to comment on the possibility of signing Jovetic from Fiorentina, so it is Benitez's Napoli who are currently leading the race for the prized-striker.
