Pep Guardiola believes Lionel Messi and Neymar will link up seamlessly and provide a formidable partnership.

The former Barcelona manager said Messi was the best player ever and that the arrival of Neymar would only result in his effectiveness being enhanced and the Camp Nou club getting much better.

Barcelona signed the Brazil superstar in a £50milllion deal e3arlier this summer and his performances at the Confederation Cup, most significantly against Spain, have seen his star rise even further.

This has led to many questions about whether Messi and Neymar would be able to perform in the same team, as both thrive best when they are made the focal point of their team’s system.

Barcelona, Ajax and Holland legend Johan Cruyff even claimed he would prepare to sell Messi after signing Neymar – a comment that sparked much debate.

However, Messi’s former manager Guardiola – now in charge of Bayern Munich – was confident the two would gel when Neymar arrived at Camp Nou.

Will Messi and Neymar work okay together? The best player in footballing history together with another superb one? I'm sure that they'll work fine together," he said.
