Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Paulinho from Corinthians for a reported £17 million.

The 24-year-old was widely expected to move to the north London club this summer after an impressive display in the Confederations Cup with champions Brazil.

A statement on Tottenham's official website read: "We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement for the transfer of Paulinho from Corinthians after the Brazil international successfully completed his medical."

Speaking about the move, Paulinho said: "I am very happy and excited to have joined Spurs. It's a huge pleasure for my career to be at a club as big as Tottenham."

Paulinho, who has 17 International caps for Brazil, has scored 34 goals in 167 appearances for Corinthians.

The Brazilian insisted earlier in the week that he wants to imitate Chelsea's legendary midfielder Frank Lampard, and he considers the English international as his role model.

Paulinho, who was also being chased by Spanish giants Real Madrid, shunned all offers having set his sights on testing himself in the Premier League.
