Marion Bartoli claimed her first Grand Slam title on centre court at Wimbledon today, as she recorded a straight set victory over hot favourite, Sabine Lisicki.
Bartoli produced a dominant display to record a 6-1 6-4 victory, ending the contest with a superb ace before collapsing to the ground having realised what she'd achieved.
The 23-year-old had overcome five-time champion Serena Williams and last year's finalist Agneska Radwanska en route to the final, with many people believing this to be the world number 24's year.
Lisicki failed to trouble Bartoli throughout, with the former looking overwhelmed by the occasion - she seemed incredibly nervous and Bartoli took full advantage.
Bartoli won the first set in just 30 minutes as Lisicki struggled to get a foothold in the contest. It was one-way traffic from there and Bartoli never looked back as she romped to victory.
This was the first Wimbledon final for both women, but Bartoli rose to the occasion and didn't allow the atmosphere to get to her.
Following her success, Bartoli moves up the rankings from 15th to 7th, matching her highest ever ranking from January last year.
Lisicki was overcome with emotion at being presented with the runners-up medal, and put her loss down to nerves.
Bartoli, on the other hand, was modest in her win, thanking her family and friends for all their support, and looking forward to tomorrow's doubles final.
"Honestly I cannot believe it," said the world number 15, a major winner on her 47th Grand Slam appearance.
"When I was a little girl I dreamed of this moment for so long. Finishing with an ace, in my wildest dreams I'd never believe it."
The 28-year-old's closest win of a Grand Slam came in 2011 when she got all the way to the semi-finals of the French Open, only to be knocked out by Franchesca Schiavone.
She has also made it to the quarter-finals of the Australian and US Open in 2009 and 2012 respectively.
