Manchester United: Who will Wilfried Zaha replace?
We take a look at the future of three Manchester United wingers who could be shown the door after Wilfried Zaha's arrival
Sir Alex Ferguson’s last signing as Manchester United manager - Wilfried Zaha - is set to arrive in Manchester.
This will provide a much-needed relief for United fans, as their wingers had a less than satisfactory season in 2012.
Here we look at the players who could be offloaded on Zaha’s arrival:
After a fantastic 2011-2012 season, where he was named the club’s player of the season, Valencia ran out of steam in 2012.
Seen as a shadow of his former self, his pace was the only attribute he still possessed.
Often losing the ball when going forward and putting in wayward crosses, Valencia had a season he’d like to forget.
Upon Zaha’s arrival his playing chances could further be reduced.
Another United winger who had a season he’d like to forget. He was bogged down by injuries throughout the season and could never really find his form.
He became too predictable in his traditional way of cutting into the right and crossing and made it all the more easier for right-backs to stop him. He couldn’t score a single goal in a season where nearly every defender scored as well for United.
He is a doubtful starter for the pre-season due to yet another injury, and could well be shown the exit this summer.
If the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are known as Mr. Consistency, Nani can be known for being Mr. Inconsistency.
Even though he has the ability to rip through the opposition’s defence when in form - Nani had yet another indifferent season in 2012, and Manchester United could well look to cut their losses on the Portuguese winger.
With AS Roma reportedly interested in the winger, he is the most likely of the three wingers who could leave the club this season.
Zaha will have a huge task on his hands as he is likely to be thrown straight into the first team.
Having no experience of playing in a major league, it will be a huge challenge for the young winger.
But if he can replicate the form with which he led Crystal Palace then he will be one of the first names on the United teamsheet.
