FC Barcelona striker David Villa is set to join Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur after a deal in principle has been agreed between the English club and the player according to the Daily Mirror.
The current crop of Spurs players have returned to pre-season training today, including Gareth Bale, and they could be joined by the Spanish striker as early as this week if the deal can be completed smoothly.
It has been reported that a deal in principle has been agreed between Tottenham and Villa, with his representatives happy with a move to England and happy to be joining Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane.
All that is left now is for the two clubs to come to terms on a fee for the 31-year-old, but that could be more of an issue than first thought.
The Spanish champions are holding out for around £8.6million for their striker, whilst Tottenham's chairman Daniel Levy, believes he can get the Spaniard for a lot cheaper because of his current contract situation.
Villa's contract will run out at the end of next season, which means he could leave the club for free in 12-months time and Tottenham believe they can use this to their advantage when coming to terms on a price for the striker.
Barca are adamant on selling Villa as they don't label him as a regular starter, especially after signing Brazilian sensation Neymar, and they are eager to get him off their wage-bill as he currently earns around £110k-a-week at the Nou Camp.
If the David Villa deal is completed and can be finalised, it would be AVB's second coup of the summer window after confirming the signing of Brazilian midfielder Paulinho last week.
