Adrian Gonzalez has said that he will be voting for teammate Yasiel Puig to get the final spot in the National League All-Star team.
The Los Angeles Dodgers duo have insisted that the vote will cause no animosity between them, regardless of who wins, and Gonzales believes that Puig is the most deserving player to take the final place in the team.
With the National League team almost filled, there is only one place remaining – with votes being opened to the public in an online vote.
“For me, personally, I want Puig to go,” said Gonzalez to NBC. “I’m voting for Puig.
“That’s what the fans want to see. It’s from the heart.”
Gonzalez has represented the All-Stars four times before and admits that his support for his teammate may not have been so vocal – or visual, as he turned up to the press conference sporting a shirt carrying Puig’s name on the back - if he hadn't have had the opportunity to represent them before.
Puig would be a particularly inexperienced pick for the All-Star team, but he has been hugely impressive in the MLB since making his debut in June last year – hitting .409 with 17-extra base hits and five stolen bases.
