Danilo Gallinari has backed fellow Italian Andrea Bargnani to be a star at the New York Knicks when he joins up with the squad tomorrow.

Gallinari, a former Knick, is expecting that Bargnani can excel in New York once his trade from the Toronto Raptors goes through officially on Wednesday.

He said to the New York Post: “We are very good friends. He’s a great guy.

“He loves to work and he likes New York a lot. He’s very excited. I think he will be good in New York.’’

Gallinari is now playing for the Denver Nuggets, although he is currently undergoing rehab after he tore his ACL last season.

Bargnani also suffered his own injury problems last season, but appears to be back to full fitness now as he gears up for the European Champions, where he will play for Italy, which start on September 4th.

The 27-year-old could only manage to play 35 games last season as an elbow injury cut his campaign short but the first choice draft pick in 2007 will be determined to impress after being given a fresh start by the Knicks.
