Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski is confident that the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain would be both useful to the team, and his own personal performances.

The Argentina international is expected to complete a £23m move to England in the coming days following media speculation linking him with a move to the Gunners all summer.

But should Higuain make the move to the Premier League with Arsenal, Podolski's place in the first team would become under threat.

And with the form of Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud showing signs of improvement, Podolski could be pushed further down the pecking order with the addition of a fourth striker.

But the Germany international is confident that he can be inspired from the capture of Higuain, rather than intimidated, should he finds himself struggling for game time.

"It is always good when good players come in," Podolski told The Sun. "I don't worry about a specific player and it is certainly not a problem. I am strong enough and I have qualities and when good players come in, I will play with good players."

And he believes that this season Arsenal have every chance of edging closer to the top of the league.

"Every season players come in and players go but I think it is good news if top players come in," Podolski continued. "The hope is that this season Arsenal will be at the top of the league. It is very difficult, but I know that Arsenal are one of those top teams who will be involved."

Podolski also believes that the likes of Manchester United will still be strong, despite the change of management.

"You don't know how the season will work out, a few of the other teams all have new managers so it is difficult to say but they will be strong. But equally, Arsenal will be strong," added the 28-year-old.
