AJ Lee is arguably the best Diva in WWE right now, she has the looks, the mic-skills and the talent in the ring with her incredible new submission finisher, but are WWE pushing her down a familiar path?
We all remember the Trish Stratus and Mickie James storyline which lead up to WrestleMania 22, Mickie was the physco who was obsessed with Trish, sending her fan mail, dressing up as her, trying to kiss her under the mistletoe and obviously the one that bothered the women's champion the most, ruining her personal life.
This was without doubt the best divas feud that WWE had had up to that point which culminated in the best ever womens match at WrestleMania when Mickie pinned Trish to take her WWE women's championship, this was when fans started to warm to Mickie when they saw her potential.
The only rivalry which comes close to this is Mickie and Melina back in 2008/09, their falls count anywhere match as well as the amount of times the women's title changed hands between them, plus the fact that both women were in ring experts, the moves they did were impressive and not as prone to botching as most of the divas of today.
You can understand why WWE want a character like Mickie back in the ring, as I said the fans loved it, pretty face with a psychotic soul, it was rumoured that Mickie left WWE back in 2010 when the 'Piggy James' storyline had gone to far and WWE told her she had to lose weight, she refused, naturally she was not a fat woman, she had muscle, something most of today's women don't have. Although WWE released a statement saying they were moving in another direction with the women's division.
Rather than have Mickie back, now she's at TNA, WWE have instead replaced her with a smaller, slimmer model who they feel will do the psycho role justice.
From what i've seen of AJ she is capable of bringing the women's division back to somewhere close to how it was back at it's peak but she will need the help of Kaitlyn to pull it off, she has already dressed up as her and forced her to lose her match, got into her head by inventing a secret admirer for her to think she was loved and last week she put fat pictures of her on the main WWE screen.
This rivalry will not come to an end at Money In The Bank, these divas still have a lot more to give, wether AJ is a carbon copy of Mickie remains to be seen, if she is hopefully she will do the role justice, Mickie is still one of the greatest women's champions WWE has ever had.
