Paulinho will be desperate to begin life under Andre Villas-Boas, and has the attributes to deliver Champions League football to White Hart Lane.

Lining up alongside the likes of Moussa Dembele and compatriot Sandro, Paulinho’s arrival will allow Spurs to play with an aggressive, physically imposing and technically skilled midfield.

If, as believed, Villas-Boas looks to develop a 4-3-3 formation, then his new signing from Corinthians will provide him with the box-to-box player necessary to offer Spurs defensive stability and offensive creativity.

Paulinho’s record is impressive. 34 goals in 167 games for Corinthians, and 5 goals in 17 appearances for his country. At just 24 years of age, he is yet to reach his peak, and if he can continue to offer goals from midfield, he could just be the man to offset the goal-scoring pressure from Gareth Bale’s shoulders.

His partnership with Dembele will also be vital for Spurs, who had a solid, if uninspiring opening season.

His goal against Lyon was crucial, and showed the attacking talent that Dembele possesses.

Spurs fans will be hoping that Paulinho’s arrival will provide Dembele with the freedom to be more expressive in the final third.

If the pair can provide creative flair, then, alongside Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon, AVB will have a plethora of attacking talent to call upon.

Moreover, if Spurs can complete the signing of Roberto Soldado from Valencia, then they will finally have a top-class goalscorer to rely on. With these two additions, Tottenham will be a formidable team come the start of the 2013/14 season.
