Nemanja Vidic to be offered new contract
Manchester United to reward Nemanja Vidic with new one-year contract
In keeping with United's club policy, players over 30 are only offered rolling 12-month contracts.
Vidic will turn 32 in October and his current Old Trafford deal expires next summer. The report claims talks between the two parties are yet to take place but there is an expectation that a deal will be reached fairly smoothly.
The Serbian international has suffered two serious knee injuries in the past 12 months, but he's highly valued at the club.
And it's common for established United players to run down contracts until close to expiration before signing on again. Ryan Giggs was out of contract this summer, and only penned an extension in March.
Vidic and Rio Ferdinand formed a rock-solid partnership at the heart of the United defence, but both have struggled with fitness in recent seasons.
The emergence of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans has softened the blow to an extent, but United have still been linked with central defenders as cover for the experienced duo.
Benfica star Ezequiel Garay is frequently mentioned as a possible United target with Vidic reportedly fearing for his first-team place as a result.
But the report claims United are eager to keep their talismanic captain, and plan talks in the coming months over a contract extension.
