Tottenham captain Michael Dawson has admitted that Gareth Bale is only as successful as he is due to the support he gets from other team-mates around him.

Bale, who won the PFA Young Player and Senior Player of the Year awards last season has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, but this move has since been rebuffed by Madrid president Florentino Perez.

Because of this, it now looks like Bale will be staying in London. And the Tottenham captain feels that Bale has the potential to reach the dizzy heights he hit last season - but only because of the quality he has around him.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Dawson said: "We all know how good Gaz was last year, he was world class and of course we have got plenty of other world-class players, so we have to make sure we keep hold of them all.

"Gaz will be the first to admit he cannot do it without the rest of the team. He thoroughly deserved winning both awards last season, it was a great honour for him, he was amazing. But if we keep bringing players in, it is only going to make us better as a squad - that is what we want to do."

And Dawson believes that with Bale, and the new signings that have and could potentially be added, Spurs can perform to a higher level next season.

"We have a fantastic squad with a great manager and good staff everyone at the whole club is hungry to do well," he added. "Every player wants to be in the Champions League. We have just made a great signing and improvement is the key- bringing in players like Paulinho is only going to make the club better."
