Former Chelsea starlet Nortei Nortey is being chased by Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday.
Wednesday manager Dave Jones is looking to overhaul his squad following a disappointing campaign last season that saw the Owls scrape past the trap-door last season. His side finished 18th in the Championship last season, and Jones believes that Nortey could be the defensive answer to their problems from last season.
The highly-rated 18-year-old defender left the Chelsea academy at the end of last season after failing to make a single appearance for the Chelsea first team.
The likes of Nathan Ake has successfully broken through into the first team, but Nortey struggled to impress the Chelsea first-team coaches during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Knee-injuries have hampered his progress in recent seasons but the 18-year-old has now returned to full fitness and he is ready to move on and play regularly. And Nortey is a wanted man, with a high number of Championship and League One clubs ready on taking a look at him following his release.
But Sky Sports have reported that Jones' side have become the favourites to sign the London-born defender, and he is set to train with their first team next week.
Nortey is known for his pace and strong defensive ability and this could hold the key for Jones' team next season, as they prepare to build on their weak campaign last season.
