Former Arsenal academy prospect Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has joined relegated Championship outfit Bristol City.
The former Gunner has been installed as the man to lead Bristol City's promotion charge next season following their relegation from the Championship last season. He makes the move alongside Scott Wagstaff, who also moved to Ashton Gate this week from Charlton Athletic following 15 years at the Valley.
The 22-year-old is part of a player-exchange deal that sees Scott Anderson head in the opposite direction.
Emmanuel-Thomas was born London and began his career at Arsenal at the age of eight. He worked his way up through the ranks at the Emirates, eventually captaining the academy side aged only 16. He won FA Youth Cup and academy league titles in the Arsenal U18 side, before penning a one-month loan deal with Blackpool, in what was his first taste of senior first-team action.
He then spent time on-loan at Doncaster Rovers and Cardiff City, before being released by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as he deemed the striker surplus to requirements at the club.
After only four substitute appearances for Arsenal over three years, Emmanuel-Thomas made the move to Portman Road where he joined Ipswich Town. A highlight of his time there was a goal struck in the 5-1 win over League leaders West Ham, who eventually won the league, in the 2011-12 season.
He made only three starts between October and May last season for Ipswich, and has decided to leave the Championship club and drop down a level to League One.
