Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld could soon hold talks with Norwich City, who have enquired about his availability, according to Sky Sports.

The ambitious Premier League outfit are hopeful of landing the defender after contacting Marc Overmars, the director of football at Ajax.

Alderweireld exited the Dutch side's training camp in Austria earlier this week for personal reasons, although his agent claims to have not spoken to him since.

In past windows, Alderweireld has been linked with moves to Southampton, Tottenham and Liverpool as well as Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. Whether Alderweireld has the desire for a move to Carrow Road remains to be seen, but initial talks are expected to be held.

The move would prove a further demonstration of the ambition of the Canaries, who snapped up Sporting Lisbon's Ricky van Wolfswinkel and highly-rated English youngster Nathan Redmond. The club also succeeded this summer in tying previously on-loan Javier Garrido to a permanent deal.
