New Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will be hoping to bring Champions League success to the Bernabeu, after Jose Mourinho failed to bring Europe's greatest prize to the Spanish capital.

The Spanish giants used to be knows as the kings of Europe but, in recent times they have been undermined in their bid to claim a tenth Champions League crown.

José Mourinho’s era saw the club dry out near the pinnacle with three consecutive semi-finals, all of which were lost by tight margins, to great disappointment of Los Blancos and their supporters.

Carlo Ancelotti has already lifted the trophy two times with AC Milan, as the Special One did with Porto and Inter.

One aspect Ancelotti does not share with Mourinho though, is his proven ability to control a squad of stars with high egos, the stepping stone for José’s demise.

Ancelotti's impressive run with Paris Saint Germain showed obvious qualities - being able to manage one of the most expensive squads in modern football is no easy feat.

But a good relationship between coach and dressing-room captains like Casillas, Sergio Ramos and Xabi Alonso is a clinical if they are to succeed.

For time and time again the fiercest enemy of Madrid has been the team itself and it is absolutely necessary to reinforce their foundations, or the club will crumble from the inside.

Ancelotti must be more than just a tactical provider. The Italian has to develop a multi-dimensional conversation to clarify his position and his role at the club.

If some players begin to feel uncomfortable under his leadership, a language of persuasion must be drawn to isolate them of their self-resolutions and lead them to understand the true importance they bear to the club.

This is definitively the hardest and most demanding task Ancelotti has ever faced as he bids to make Real Madrid a European force once again.
