Manchester City are closing in on the signing of 15-year-old midfielder Rodney Kongolo, according to reports.
Goal.com claims the youngster – touted as the new Patrick Vieira – is set to travel to the Etihad Stadium later this week, as the Citizens look to secure a deal for the Feyenoord starlet.
Liverpool and Chelsea are also credited with an interest in the player, with a potential £500,000 compensation fee seen as a relative bargain.
The website claims Manchester City hope the appointment of Vieira himself as the head of the club’s Elite Development Squad will help sway the player in their direction.
Vieira is Kongolo’s idol, and his arrival at the Premier League runners-up would continue their policy of investing in young players.
Manchester City have already recruited Zacharias Faour – dubbed ‘the new Zlatan Ibrahimovic’ – and are also keen on Sporting Gijon starlet Manu Garcia.
Liverpool haven't been afraid to invest in youth in the past either though, with Raheem Sterling and Jordan Ibe both moving to Merseyside for decent money.
And, manager Brendan Rodgers has been working under a policy of giving young players a chance at Anfield since his arrival, with the likes of Suso, Andre Wisdom and Jordan Henderson all involved in the first team.
Chelsea have also invested heavily in youth, with Romelu Lukaku, Oscar and Eden Hazard three youngsters recently drafted in at Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho is now at the Blues' helm, and will be eager to see the club's Academy produce stars of the future in west London.
