James Anderson has come out and announced that he is going to try and intimidate the Australian batsmen this summer with a verbal barrage.
Anderson feels that he can add to the pressure on the visitors’ batsmen by being more aggressive verbally, as England aim to retain the Ashes.
Anderson told The Times: "What I've tried to work at over the last few years is trying to impose myself on batsmen, at certain times I might go a little bit more aggressive with maybe some sort of verbals or something.
“In the past it's been when I get frustrated that the anger comes out and emotion comes out and having a go at batsmen.
"I won't pretend that what I say is either witty or intelligent or thoughtful - it's just something that comes out. If that sort of thing comes naturally to you then you should try and channel it, use it to your advantage. If it doesn't come naturally then you can look very stupid.''
This is something that is not normal for Anderson, who is used to letting his skill with the ball do his talking for him and in my mind Anderson should stick to letting his bowling do the talking.
Australia has been struggling in Test matches in recent times, coming off a 4-0 loss in India and the last thing England should be thinking of doing is sledging the Australian players and giving them extra motivation.
The English spearhead has a sensational record in Test cricket, having taken 307 Test wickets at an average of 30.14 and arguably becoming the best fast bowler in the world at the moment.
