West Brom may be a step closer to signing target Mounir El Hamdaoui as he appears certain to leave Fiorentina, according to talkSPORT.

The Baggies have previously sent scouts to watch the 28-year-old and with the Viola having signed Mario Gomez from Bayern Munich - it will make it even harder for the striker to break into the team.

He only made 19 appearances for the Serie A outfit last season, scoring just three goals after signing from Ajax in the summer of 2012.

The Moroccan has been signed by a Premier League club before as Tottenham Hotspur brought him to England in 2005, but he never made an appearance in his one year at White Hart Lane and instead spent some time on loan at Derby County in the Championship.

But Albion will face competition from FC Twente in the race to sign the player and he has had successful spells in the Eredivisie with Ajax and AZ Alkmaar.
