Bayern Munich believe they have won the race to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, who has also been linked with moves to Chelsea and Manchester United before the transfer deadline.

The Champions League winners had appeared favourites to complete a deal for Lewandowski, before Dortmund decided against allowing the Poland international to follow Mario Götze to Munich.

Manchester United and Chelsea have also been credited with interest in Lewandowski, as David Moyes and Jose Mourinho strive to bring reinforcements to Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge, respectively.

Bayern, however, expect Dortmund to keep hold of Lewandowski beyond the summer transfer window, and prepare to lose the 24-year-old for nothing next year rather than sell the player to a rival.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, president of the Bavarians, expects such a tactic to play into their hands, and believes it likely Bayern will secure the signature of Lewandowski when he becomes a free agent.

"I believe that Dortmund will be aware of that," he told Sport Bild.

"I have the impression that Watzke will stand by his words. He will have thoroughly thought about keeping Lewandowski [until 2014]."
