The Columbus Blue Jackets have been a team that have endured many ups and downs.
The organization has helped superstar Rick Nash become the great player that he is today. However, that time has come and gone for the organization.
But the Blue Jackets have been consistently building up their roster since then.
At the trade deadline of this year the organization acquired Marion Gaborik from the New York Rangers. They’ve successfully signed last year’s Vezina trophy winner Sergei Bobrovsky.
And now they’ve added 28 year old Nathan Horton to the roster as well. The former Boston Bruin signed a seven year, $32.1m contract with the Blue Jackets.
This is a considerable investment for the organization. But I believe Nathan Horton is certainly worth the money. He’s had the experience of winning a Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins.
He has exceptional puck handling skills, great speed, an accurate shot, and isn’t afraid to crash the net when required. I believe this is a great addition to the team’s roster.
Especially when considering that Horton will be joining the likes of Artem Anisimov, Nick Folingo and Brandon Dubinsky as well. I believe this team has a considerable amount of depth to work with now.
With the roster they have now, they’ll be able to challenge the bigger clubs like the Boston Bruins or Chicago Blackhawks.
In fact, I believe this team will be one of the team’s challenging for first in the Western Conference this season. The question now becomes how far will this team go if they’re able to get in the playoffs? I for one can’t wait to find out.
