Samuel Kyere’s nightmare own goal was not enough to help Tre Penne overcome FC Shirak in their Champions League first round qualifier.

The Ghanaian defender put the ball past his own keeper in just the second minute of the match, producing a lovely side-foot pass that rolled agonisingly away from the onrushing keeper and into the empty net.

Delirium followed in San Marino, as the hosts held on for their first win in European competition.

But, having lost the first leg 3-0 against the Armenian champions, it was only a partial success for Tre Penne, who had goalkeeper Federico Valentini to thank for the final score.

FC Shirak had substitute Davit Marikyan sent-off late, but advance to face FK Partizan in the next round.

Manager Vardan Bichakhchyan will be optimistic his side can make it to the next round, but will need to avoid another Kyere moment if they want to make their mark in the tournament.
