Manchester United and Arsenal are ready to go head to head over the signing of a player dubbed ‘the Ukrainian Lionel Messi’, Dnipro star Yevhen Konoplyanka.
According to talkSPORT, both Arsene Wenger and David Moyes are keen on the Ukraine international and would only need to pay £13million to secure his services.
However, Manchester United and Arsenal are not the only two teams tracking the 23-year-old, as the report credits Bundesliga clubs Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg with an interest as well.
Konoplyanka rose to prominence representing his country as they co-hosted Euro 2012 and has been developing well in the following season.
If the Gunners or Old Trafford officials are ready to make an approach, Konoplyanka’s agent said both his client and Dnipro are ready to listen to offers.
“Yevhen is very highly rated amongst the top teams in England and Germany,” James Lippett told talkSPORT.
“The question is simply whether these clubs can meet Dnipro’s valuation and the player's expectations.”
£13million would seem to be a reasonable price tag for one of Europe’s most highly rated youngsters and well within the range of Arsenal and Manchester United.
Wenger is expected to spend an unprecedented amount on transfers this season, though Emirates Stadium fans will be hoping for more high-profile signings than Konoplyanka.
