Aberdeen and Celtic will contest the first SPL match to be broadcast live on BT Sport, as the new channel has released the first exclusive games for next season.

The visitors were runaway champions in the league in 2012/13, and Neil Lennon's side will travel to Pittodrie to face a team looking to improve on their eighth-place finish.

The team that were runners-up to Celtic will also feature in the opening month of the campaign, as their clash at home to Kilmarnock will be in front of the live cameras on August 31.

They will start their coverage of football north of the border by showing their first Scottish Football League match on August 2, when Partick Thistle take on Dundee United in a Friday night match.

The first match where Rangers fans will be able to watch their team in action will be on August 10, when they entertain Brechin City at Ibrox.

It will be interesting to see how many away fans are in attendance for that fixture, as their own home ground Glebe Park can only host 4000.

That will be one of 30 exclusively live matches from the SFL, and a further ten games involving the Gers.

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said in a press release sent to GiveMeSport: “We are delighted to announce our first few live games from Scotland. The trip north for Celtic to Aberdeen will be an early test of whether they have the resolve to retain their title.

“We are also delighted to follow the dramatic story of Rangers, as they attempt to rebuild their club and regain their place in the top division in the next few years.

“BT Sport has a great selection of live action from the Scottish Professional Football League this season, including ten Rangers matches, so fans will be well served by our channels. We will also have some fantastic talent announcements lined up who will front our coverage.”

It has not yet been revealed who will present the coverage or who the pundits will be, but an announcement will be expected to be made closer to the start of the season.
