With the arrival of Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea's status as title-contenders will undoubtedly be strengthened.
Chelsea already have one of the best squads in the Premier League, however, they are lacking in some key areas and need to add wisely to the squad to maintain a title challenge.
Petr Cech is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and the world so any immediate successor in this position is not needed currently.
However, the addition of former Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer will provide the Czech with much-needed competition.
Thibaut Courtois has already shown he has the credentials to be a long-term successor to Cech, impressing on a loan spell at Atletico Madrid last season.
Chelsea's greatest weakness is their defence. With John Terry and Ashley Cole (both 32) unlikely to improve the Blues need to strengthen desperately at the back.
With Cesar Azpilicueta at right-back and Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic at centre-back, Chelsea have strength in-depth, but with squad rotation in mind and keeping an eye on the future, Chelsea need to invest.
Ryan Bertrand needs to improve drastically if he is to replace Cole and Chelsea should probably be considering Patrick van Aanholt instead, or maybe even the promising young Southampton left-back Luke Shaw.
As for a new centre-back, Mourinho is seemingly interested in signing the FC Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala.
At only 22 he has plenty of time to develop and with Mourinho's help he will. His price tag may be a problem though, so Chelsea may turn to Mangala's compatriot - the young Kurt Zouma, who at £10 million would be a bargain.
The Blues midfield is without doubt one of the best in the league.
At full strength, Chelsea can boast the presence of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Oscar, Kevin de Brunye, Andre Schurrle, Ramires, Victor Moses and Frank Lampard, just to name a few!
Questions have been raised about the future of John Obi Mikel and the recent arrival of Marco van Ginkel may speed up his departure.
Chelsea's attack is where Jose Mourinho has the biggest dilemma.
At the moment they have Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku. But with Ba struggling and Torres only showing consistency in cup competitions, the only other option is Lukaku.
He impressed on loan at West Brom last year and looks promising for the coming season. However if either Ba or Torres leave this summer, then Chelsea will need to strengthen their attack.
Their main target remains Edinson Cavani, but competition is high with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid & Manchester City all interested in signing the Uruguayan.
Chelsea should look for alternatives and who better than the excellent Marco Reus? The Dortmund player would be a fantastic addition to any squad.
Rest of the squad
Other players will also be looking for playing time as Chelsea's involvement in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup will force some squad rotation.
Players like Oriel Romeu, Nathan Aké, Lucas Piazón, Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah may surprise a few this year and if they impress, Mourinho may give them regular first-team football.
