Mario Gotze will soon be fit to make his first appearance for Bayern Munich, after recovering from a thigh injury.
The 21-year-old picked up the knock towards the back end of last season, and suffered a setback in his recovery in training the week before the Champions League final.
That was a match in which he was due to play against Bayern for the team they had just signed him from for £31.5m, as they beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to become European champions for the fifth time in the club’s history.
But after missing the first few days of pre-season, the attacking midfielder, who is the club’s second most expensive signing after Javi Martinez, has stepped closer to a return to action
"My situation is ever-improving. I hope that I will shortly be able to play football again," he was quoted as saying by Bild.
The German international was back in light training yesterday, and will be expected to be back in full training within two weeks.
It is unlikely that he will be fit to face his manager Pep Guardiola’s old club Barcelona in a pre-season friendly on July 24, but has a better chance of facing Sao Paulo a week later.
