I believe Edmonton Oilers GM Craig Mactavish is an absolute genius in signing David Perron.
This forward has been one of the most under-rated players in the NHL over the past few seasons. He’s got great speed, strength and an extremely accurate shot.
He’ll be a wonderful addition to the Edmonton Oilers’ roster. However, I’m worried that the team is too young. Clearly they have loads of talent and amazing potential in Nail Yakupov, Ryan Nugent Hopkins and Jordan Eberle.
However, the departure of long time Oilers forward Shawn Horcoff, will be tough for the team to adjust to. I believe the team lacks the required experience to launch a lengthy playoff campaign. I know the organization also have acquired veteran defencemen Andrew Ference but the only veteran forwards they have are Ryan Smyth, Boyd Gordon and Ales Hemsky.
Experience is a huge key to success. The rookie players on this roster have proven they can score, but it’s the experienced players that deal best with pressure. All of the younger players on the team have had break out seasons over the past few years.
The kid line will be a difficult challenge for any opponent to overcome but nerves will end up hurting this team the most. Stupid penalties could seriously hurt this young, inexperienced roster. Also, I find the roster lacks the required physical ability as well.
At any rate, the Edmonton Oilers do have a large amount of talent to work with. I was extremely surprised when Shawn Horcoff left the team. But it’ll be exciting to see which of these younger players will take on more responsibility. I’m sure the powerful kid line will be ready and anxious for the season to begin.
