Chelsea have been laughed off as a possible destination for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, leaving Tottenham Hotspur in the driving seat to sign him.
Benteke has handed in a transfer request at Villa Park and is eager to make a move to a more high-profile club ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he hopes to lead the line for Belgium.
Chelsea and Spurs were reportedly the two main suitors for the 22-year-old, but comments from his agent have suggested Andre Villas-Boas may well be in the driving seat.
According to Metro, Eris Kismet claimed the likelihood of Jose Mourinho signing Benteke was “that Christian would go to Turkse Rangers”.
Turkse Rangers are an amateur Belgian team and the report goes on to say that Kismet and Benteke are unconvinced about the role he could play at Chelsea.
The former Genk striker, who scored 19 goals in his debut Premier League season, believes he will be a regular starter at White Hart Lane and would have a better chance of securing his place in the Belgium starting XI.
