Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger looks certain to strengthen his side this summer as the club aims to challenge for trophies next season.

Arsenal fans have been yearning for a high-profile, big-money addition to the club for sometime.

They have been encouraged by chief executive Ivan Gazidis, claiming that the club is flush with funds and intend to use it to make quality additions to the squad.

There has also been rumours of impending additions to the front-line, in the form of proven strikers like Wayne Rooney, Gonzalo Higuain and more recently Luis Suarez.

However, the only addition so far has been a young French striker from Ligue 1, Yaya Sanogo, who is clearly a promising future talent rather than an immediate first-team starter, which is what is needed at the moment.

In recent weeks, the news of Higuain's transfer to Arsenal have been so widely reported that Arsenal fans have been left wondering why this transfer hasn't yet been confirmed.

Last week there were reports of the Argentine striker boarding a flight to London to finalise the deal and to undergo the mandatory medical check-up at the club. Even his father claimed that the striker will be plying his attractive trade in the Premier League next season, and that Arsenal have been granted permission to strike a deal with the striker.

However, the latest claims by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez that Arsenal haven't even submitted a bid yet will be a huge setback for the Gunners faithful.

Wenger wants to strengthen his attacking line-up, and has the resources to do so. However, he has also been singing the praises of first-choice French striker Olivier Giroud and his impact in his first year at the club.

He would also expect both Giroud and Lukas Podolski to put in a better and more productive second stint at the club, having had full seasons to adapt, while Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla will look to continue their goal scoring ways.

The outcome of all the speculations will soon be apparent. Till then Arsenal fans can console themselves with the long held belief that "Arsene knows best" and trust the judgement of the now longest serving manager in English football.
