The transfer of Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain appears to be close to completion.

According to the Uruguayan sports media outlet Ovacion, Cavani underwent a medical on Wednesday evening and subsequently signed a five-year deal.

Paris Saint-Germain could therefore be announcing the transfer shortly - which will see them pay £54million.

The Napoli forward is said to have agreed a deal worth £8.6million a year on a five-year contract.

The high price of £54million scared off other European clubs interested in Cavani, but Paris Saint-Germain were willing to pay the full price for the Uruguayan.

Cavani was the top scorer in the Serie A last season, scoring 29 goals, which contributed to his total 104 goals and 26 assists in 138 matches in his three seasons at Napoli.

He joined Napoli on loan from Palermo in 2010 and was purchased by Napoli a year later.

He scored three goals in four matches during this summer's Confederations Cup, where he Uruguay finished in fourth place.
