Manchester United are being linked with a move for Chelsea target Claudio Marchisio after missing out on Kevin Strootman, according to reports.

Sports Direct News claims the Red Devils have set their sights on the £25million-rated Juventus star, as David Moyes looks to make his mark in the transfer window.

Thiago Alcantara has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but the Spaniard is also being chased by Bayern Munich, and if Manchester United miss out, they could be left short at the start of the season.

So, the website claims Moyes has created a shortlist of targets for the Premier League champions, with Marchisio one of the names on the list.

The 27-year-old has previously admitted he would be ‘very proud’ to play for Manchester United, and the door could be open if Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor decides to make a move.

However, rivals Chelsea have also been linked with a move in the past.

The Daily Express claimed back in May that Jose Mourinho, who was set to take over at Stamford Bridge at the time, wanted to make the Italian international a Blues player.

Chelsea did not make a move immediately, but if United pursue a move, then a transfer battle could ensue.
