Pre-season friendlies can often be pretty dull but their non-competitive nature can mean a freedom that allows players to attempt things they normally wouldn’t – step forward Martin Hinteregger.
Red Bull Salzburg pulled off a good 3-1 win over German side Schalke 04 on Thursday night and the big defender opened the scoring with a strike that every football player or fan must dream of doing.
The Schalke front four look to have done a pretty good job pressing when goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi passes out to Hinteregger, as the defender look under pressure.
However, he surprised everyone with a neat turn past the strikers before hitting it first time from all of 70 yards, giving Schalke number one Timo Hildebrand no chance.
It was sensational vision and an even better strike from the 20-year-old and every one of his teammates mobbed him.
